A pilgrimage center in Dzūkija with the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Consolation for the Sorrowful. A basilica of the Kaišiadorys Diocese.

The Basilica of Pivašiūnai is one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in Dzūkija, located in the Alytus district. The first church on this site was built in the 17th century; the current stone building dates to 1825, and its main treasure is the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Consolation for the Sorrowful, crowned in 1988 by Cardinal Vincentas Sladkevičius with papal-blessed crowns. Every August, the great Pivašiūnai feast attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over Lithuania. In 2000, the church was granted the title of minor basilica. Pivašiūnai is an important spiritual center of the Kaišiadorys Diocese, hosting retreats and spiritual renewal programs.
