Church of St. Theresa in Vilnius
An early Baroque church near the Gates of Dawn, decorated with sandstone and marble details. One of the most beautiful churches in Vilnius.
St. Theresa's Church is one of the earliest and most beautiful examples of Baroque architecture in Vilnius, built in 1633–1650 for the Discalced Carmelite monks. The church stands next to the Gates of Dawn, forming a unified sacral ensemble. The facade features rich sandstone and marble decoration – such ornamental detail is rare among Lithuanian churches. The interior contains ornate Baroque altars, frescoes, and valuable paintings. The church was funded by Vilnius Castellan Steponas Pacas, and its architecture shows strong Italian Baroque influence. Today the church is one of Vilnius's most active parishes, with several daily Masses. Pilgrims visiting the Gates of Dawn usually also visit this church.
