Liškiava Hillfort
An impressive hillfort above the Nemunas – part of southern Lithuania's defensive system.
Liškiava Hillfort stands on steep slopes above the Nemunas River in southern Dzūkija. Its slopes reach up to 30 meters above the Nemunas water level. The hillfort was an important element of Lithuania's southern defensive system, guarding a Nemunas ford and road. Near the hillfort is the Liškiava Dominican monastery complex (17th century) – one of the most impressive Baroque architectural monuments in southern Lithuania. The hillfort offers wide views of the Nemunas valley, and Dzūkija National Park stretches all around.
