The Panevezys Regional Museum is the principal cultural heritage institution in the Panevezys region, founded in 1925. The museum collections encompass over 150,000 exhibits – from prehistoric archaeological finds to 20th-century documents and artworks. The exhibitions present the nature of Aukstaitija, geological development, and the region's history from the Stone Age to the restoration of independence. The museum also presents the development of Panevezys city, industrial history, and notable local figures. The ethnographic collections reflecting northern Aukstaitija's folk culture and traditional crafts are of exceptional value. The museum actively cooperates with schools and organizes educational programs.
