Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum
A museum in the home of poet Maironis by the Nemunas, presenting Lithuanian literary history from the 16th century to the present. Original manuscripts and personal belongings of writers are preserved.
The Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum operates in the former home of poet and priest Jonas Maciulis-Maironis by the Nemunas River in Kaunas. The museum preserves an immense Lithuanian literary heritage – writers' manuscripts, books, letters, photographs, and personal belongings. The exhibitions present the development of Lithuanian literature from the first printed books in the 16th century to contemporary Lithuanian writers' works. Visitors can see the authentically recreated Maironis study and living quarters. Literary evenings, book presentations, and educational programs are regularly held here. It is the most important institution of Lithuanian literary memory in the country.
